Basically a film that had a worse plot than Steve McQueen’s Le Mans using footage less awesome than Steve McQueen’s Le Mans to say something much less profound than Steve McQueen’s Le Mans.
And I don’t even like Steve McQueen’s very much. More of a Paul Newman guy.
by far the best racing movie I've seen recently was Audi v Lancia tbf, don't understand why it took a bit of a panning I thought it was great
Le Mans 66 remains my racing movie high point.
There was no CGI and McQueen was insane enough to get some of those shots. As an engaging film it failed quite badly but no one’s made a better racing movie.
it would have been MUCH better if the team said they had to start dating to prove they liked each other really and then smash cut to social media like :( problematic age gap :((((
look even WACKY RACES had INTERNAL RULES I don't know what they were but I am SURE they were UPHELD you can't just put a driver who didn't qualify into the qualifying driver's grid spot
this movie SUCKS against my better judgement I'm really enjoying it
I think you nailed it with the video game comparison. Lots of references to real things that seem to instead work like unrelated video game mechanics. The original characters seem to be the only people with agency in the series. And, yet, not a terrible time?
I was going in with my hater game fully ready but it was? oddly fun? possibly because of its theme of blatant cheating?
My thoughts exactly
huge for sponsors that there's an infosec story in the middle
I want some forensic accountant to find out if anyone paid for Brad Pitt to drive for Lotus in the late 80's to give us all that loving Camel sponsorship in the flashbacks
well, ok it was goofy, irresponsible, sexist, insulting to the concept of motorsport regulations AND physics but that is F1 babey so 8/10 (watched dead sober, drunk Hazel might have been more of a hater)
Every single person affiliated with APX deserves a lifetime ban because they're massive cheaters. Brad Pitt is a monster. I had a lot of fun watching it and it was a lot of the cinematography was neat. Can't wait for people to watch a real race and go "They should trigger a safety car on purpose!"
the racing was visually very cool and that was my bare minimum so it passed
If you forget everything you know about motorsport, cars, aerodynamics and physics it’s actually a pretty good movie.
That was my ultimate shut-up-and-let-the-others-enjoy-it moment 😬
To quote @megrowler.fangraphs.com , the team members should kiss on the mouth, if they want to.
