If I was a tech billionaire, I would make something that people actually NEED - that is, an aggregator UX that means you only have to log into one app to watch all your shows and it interacts with all the other apps.

We have the argument every night which channel things are on, because actually their brand identities are blurry.
But no, they just want to invent the bus again or something to spy on your employees.
I'd disagree they are trying to reinvent the bus Rather, they want to intervene and derail any chance if bus, rail or any other mass transit being properly funded and successful Hyperloop was exactly this. Pure vapour concept that did it's job - stopping investment in proper mass transit projects
I couldn't figure it out at the time. Why even attempt this given that there's no chance of it making him any money, and if it did, it would cannibalise Tesla. This insight from you makes it clear to me in retrospect. Thank you.
YEah I just use "reinvent the bus" as a shorthand tbh.
Also an aggregator that allows you to buy individual articles on paywalled news sites. (TM @nonthepratt.bsky.social)
I would break my screen paying for this so fast
RIGHT???
A universal newspaper would be a good idea, with a composite subscription discounted for the bits you don't want to read.
Yes, i do not want to be paying for sports and house and garden or whatever!
Exactly, just news and books for me. I am sure others would be happy with just the supplements so it would balance out.
Though… xkcd.com/927/
I heard every academic referencing system was created as a way to standardize academic referencing and sometimes I think clever people are unbelievably stupid.
hahahaahaha
I just want to find my shows without having to keep track of them in a spreadsheet
yeah, that's the most frustrating thing ever tbh...
I literally have a google sheet saying where everything is. This should NOT be necessary!
yeah, I have so many apps for different shows, sometimes I loose track of them
I might be misunderstanding but I think both Apple and Amazon streaming toys do this? I just tested on mine and got results from Disney, ITV, iPlayer, Netflix etc. all in the same line, and choosing one opens the appropriate app. Or do you mean at a software level on a computer rather than a TV set?
And does it show you "pick up where you left off" across all apps?? That's what I need most. So not stuff I have to search for but it shows me what I'm watching.
Not across all services. I think it's down to the data shared by those services - something something AP something I think? But mine just offered things from three services.
gotcha! Someone's suggested plex, looking into that.
We use Plex for our own media libraries - ie. files we have on a hard drive, stuff we made or ripped from discs - but if it integrates with the streaming services I'd love to know all about it. Could be useful!
What we want, I think, is the BBC and Netflix to play along and spit that data out, rather than keep it in an egg inside a duck, which is in turn inside a hare, in a chest, buried on a faraway island surrounded by walls of flame.
Sounds about right!
Or as fans of the Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy might say 'in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign outside the door saying "Beware of the Leopard."'
WHAT????? So I just search for the show and it comes up even if it's not on eg amazon??
Apple TV does this for all but Netflix (which is more a choice by Netflix)
Annoyingly our Apple TV is bust but good to know!
There are rumours of a cheaper one later in the year, but there are always rumours of a cheaper one later in the year
* Apple TV the device, or the TV app on an iPhone, but not Apple TV the app on other devices
Here's what happens when you search for Friday Night Dinner and Doctor Who. Results across everywhere.
Yes please.
Plex does that in theory!
oooh will go google
Plex.tv is the site!
Ta! Looking for an "explain this to me like I'm five" explainer!
This looks promising... www.howtogeek.com/252261/how-t...
I primarily use it to watch private content from mine and my friends servers. You can connect your services like Netflix et al to it and then when you search for things it’ll list where you can watch them, with gateways to each. Also has its own content with ads baked in.
I would set up a charity that takes dogs for rides in cars with the window down, so they can stick their heads out.
