Top London tip: during this tube strike, be prepared for some of the worst cycling on lime bikes ever witnessed by humanity. I will be giving lime bikes the kind of wide berth I usually reserve for chelsea tractors and obviously drunk people.

Why do they need tractors in Chelsea? That's mad that is. I suppose they could plough up the football pitch and plant taters. Get those food miles down.
Pedestrians on two wheels. Utterly clueless.
Unpopular opinion: Lime bikes are fantastic - they get drivers off the roads and they encourage exercise. I think they’re great.
I strongly preferred the Nice Ride bikes we had in Minneapolis where you had to dock them at specific docking stations. Having the bikes littered all over sidewalks and bike paths is really irritating, and trying to _find_ a bike when you need one is less than ideal.
I mean, I like having rideshare bikes! I think they're great. I'm even slowly getting over my snit at the scooters. But I really think that we should go back to requiring them to be docked.
I wouldn’t use them if they were docked, I love the freedom of being able to ride to my destination and then not think about them again
Same, I think it's important that they CAN be genuinely point to point. Though they need to make them harder to hack cos that means people can put them anywhere and it's a real problem if you have mobility issues/a pram or something.
I am totally interested in some reasonable compromise, actually. I can see how the freedom is a selling point, but they are also a fucking menace on narrow bike paths, or on crowded sidewalks. Given that they don't need the infrastructure of a dock, maybe just lots of designated parking spots?
I absolutely agree. So many are just street litter. But when I used a docked bike it was extremely frustrating to arrive at the dock nearest my destination and then find I had to ride around looking for another dock that actually had a space! Something that solves both problems would be fantastic!
I think if the app was stricter about what's an acceptable parking spot (and gives you suggestions - a button to "end ride and find parking spot" so you're not still paying while looking for spot) that'd be a start. Plus harder to hack (hackd bikes always end up in a heap)
That IS an unpopular opinion. I agree entirely with what you say but still, the way people use them is often an absolute menace. Especially to pedestrians.
They're fine on normal days. On days like this OUT COME THE MONSTERS.
I agree in general but suspect its mainly non-drivers/public transport users that ride them
You know a Lime bike earns far more during an average ride of ten minutes than someone on minimum wage does? It's another reason they all need hurling into a skip. The bikes, not the workers obvs.
I mean they're incredibly $$$ so I can believe it!
They're ridiculously expensive. Should be called Vymes Bikes.
I basically use them as I used to use taxis - when I'm all outta other options!
I'm sure you're an excellent cyclist, but generally I think Lime bikes should be as easy to hire as a helicopter ie almost impossible without having the necessary piloting competence and personal liability insurance. Lime are notoriously shady in the latter regard and don't care about the former.
HA
I cycled in yesterday (on my own bike as I regularly do) and did notice an increase in the number of e-bike rentals on the roads. The riding is often very questionable though!
I saw 4 of the wobbliest tyros ever, unable to get any meaningful forward motion in the middle of a junction by St Paul's last night. It was lucky it was nearly midnight
Used to cycle around the time that the TFL hire bikes were first available and that was carnage. Happiuly working from home so avoiding this week's nonsense.
saw someone describe yesterday as Day 1 of the Lime Bike Wars and part of me is glad not to be trying to cycle to work in London, and part of me wishes I was there to witness it.
Tube strike, glad I live in the us where I can drive.
Mr KJC saw someone get one out and then sit on it while pressing the brake and gear levers. He was apparently waiting for it to move autonomously.
I am guessing that is happening all over london today
Pretty sure Dante's 9 Circles of Hell was based on a London commuter's typical journey 🤔
Lime bikes have Loki energy. You cannot predict what they will do. They are machines of chaos (complimentary)
They do. Tho more corporate than Loki will ever be!
It's like wacky races out there
You also get pedestrians roaming the streets like the Walking Dead.
