The romanticized 1980s is called “vaporwave” or “cassettecore”, I believe.

I've researched it quite a bit in the past few weeks. I'm just waiting for a time to post all of it over 2 weeks. But yes. That's the main branch of the genre.

Eh, vaporwave is more of a satire on the aesthetic coupled with the consumerism. Retrowave is more sincere.
