Dems do, I agree. That said, personally, as a voter, though, I do not think anyone needs to "court me," and I'm not waiting to be courted. I'm asking who has the best chance to make things better for everyone. That's how I make my decision. I would be embarrassed to demand courting.
It’s just that the electorate at large evidently doesn’t work that way. Dems dragged their feet on Gaza and a lot of people didn’t vote for them over it. Humans being humans, why expect them to change their behavior on their own if the platform doesn’t meaningfully change? That’s just naive.
I think 2 things are fully true, even if they seem mutually exclusive: 1) It is the duty of the D party to find a way to win votes. 2) It is the duty of each voter to vote in a way that helps ppl, aligns w/ values, maximizes good and minimizes bad. The "court me" vibe seems like an abdication on 2
2 is a nice ideal, but it’s just simply not the reality we’re facing. Maybe some magic pixie dust will fall and get everyone in the country to think that way. But just in case that doesn’t happen, Dems ought to evolve the platform and try to correct what went wrong.
