When I was a teenager in the 90s I could name maybe three people who had transitioned publicly, and I assumed these cases were rare. I don't think you could find a teenager in America today who isn't familiar with the concept of transgender people.

Kinda the same with homosexuality, in the 50s nobody would talk about. Now you see gay couples on TV, and sometimes they don't even get punished by the Hays Code. You can declare gay marriage illegal again, but you'll never make the gays disappear.
