If people need religion to be good, then they are not really good at all
If people need religion to be good, then they are not really good at all
I can’t really agree with that. Some folks need a reminder (even if it’s just once per week or on special occasions) to be aware of the goodness that flows from loving their fellow beings. Most folks I know who practice their religion, value that framework for refreshing those priorities. 1/2
I do agree that a repressive religion fails them. 2/2
All religion are repressive and rely on control. Religion was invented as a method of controlling the masses.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on this. The religion I practice empowers each of us with our individual gifts. Lumping all religion into one monolithic category is simplistic & prejudiced.
All religion is a monolithic category - every religion thinks their one is the 'right' one.
Seems to me it’s YOU who are trying to be right. And rather than learning about different folks beliefs you have to shove your opinion down their throats. So, yes, I would call that prejudiced. I am not saying you have to agree with me, nor I with you, I’m just advocating for personal views. Peace.✌🏾
It is only personal is done in your own home/head. Religion is the cause of so much death and suffering - that is fact - not prejudice. Peaceful it is not. This is not an opinion and I don't have to agree with threats to society. You are the one who is trying to force your opinion on me.
Can you explain why showing no prejudice and disavowing all religion is 'prejudiced'? It is the opposite of prejudice - it is treating them all exactly the same.
Nobody should need religion to 'remind' them to be good. To argue that 'goodness flows' in a church is very naïve. Religion is about power, control and money. Places of 'worship' are commonly places to victimise the weaker in society.
Again. This is a monolithic categorization of religion into one category. And, yes, people need reminders for all sorts of things. When the tumult of living sends us off kilter, a reminder of good is a very helpful thing. I hope you can find evidences of good in folks of all cultures & beliefs.
It is one category and if a person needs religion to tell them to be good then that is a fault in that person.
People are a mix of good, bad, indifferent and all other things. Religion doesn't make them somehow 'better'.
