For what it’s worth, I don’t think falling victim to the disease of alcoholism disqualifies anyone from public service. But a record of opposing the tenets of service before self, equality, and the laws of war that define U.S. military service clearly disqualifies Pete Hegseth.

Has Hegseth admitted to being an alcoholic? Is he totally sober now? I honestly don’t know.

We’ve known plenty of people with substance use disorder who don’t rape others when they are under the influence. It’s not that he has this disease. It’s how he behaves. Plus incompetence.

I agree. Unfortunately, it seems many of the swing votes we needed aren’t as disturbed by these things as they should be. I’m deeply disappointed in our system.

Alcoholism is a disease but it does surely impact his clarity of mind, his ability to function in a sober manner and without impairment. It’s definitely not a plus on a resume.
