What a privilege this morning.....We're camped at Nissen Bight, on the North Coast Trail, and a Coastal Wolf turns to stare at us. A sub-species of the Grey Wolf, these wolves are solitary and survive on clams, mussels and foraging on the beach; they are strong swimmers.
Lucky you! I've hiked that trail twice and while I've heard them howling, I've never seen more than prints in the sand.
Had a fox in my back garden the other week. The thrill of a close encounter with a wild animal is spine tingling.

Wow...great shot!! What an incredible experience. I was just up in Tofino a few weeks ago and having learned a bit about them, I've been fascinated ever since. Supposedly they have webbed paws like a Labradoodle to aid in swimming. Pretty cool!!
