“Pop punk isn’t political” as if blink 182 weren’t chanting the sentiment of the proletariat when they said WORK SUCKS! I KNOW!
“Pop punk isn’t political” as if blink 182 weren’t chanting the sentiment of the proletariat when they said WORK SUCKS! I KNOW!
From not being political Blink-184 spent a lot of time bitching about stupid random laws the state imposes. “In my town you can drive naked” ……..”the state looks down on sodomy”
yelling along with this at age 14 as if I knew, inherently, that work sucks
Do people not understand what "punk" means?
Politics is the defining feature of punk. To be fair, Blink is 80% sex, 15% relationship and 5% politics, which is where the "pop punk" tag comes from.
I’ve had people tell me punk wasn’t political. WTAF?!
Have they heard Goldfinger? youtu.be/I7I3PHqcy_o?...
I may not like it, but you're right 🤷♂️
their album was called ENEMA OF THE STATE , I rest my case
I should like to politely point anyone with the opinion that it isn't at the entirety of The Offspring's "Americana."
Same with almost every Pennywise album.
"The representative from California has the floor.."
I just watched people angrily walk out of a Five Iron Frenzy show tonight bc of politics so I guess people got the same mindset about ska too
FIF existing in both the 90s CCM/Christian alternative scene and the ska scene means they unfortunately have a lot of casuals who still inhabit conservative evangelicalism. Most diehards do not and many of us would give them some credit for our worldview and deconstruction
"I wish FIF wouldn't have gotten political all the sudden" Album 1 track 1: 🎶 West or bust, in God we trust Let's rape, let's kill, let's steal We can almost justify anything we feel 🎶 Definitely not criticizing manifest destiny, native American genocide and Christian nationalism...
Next they'll be saying that the Dead Kennedys weren't suggesting that Nazi Punks to actually F Off
and who leaves roses on the stairs?? that’s right she’s a democratic socialist
"I pledge allegiance to the paycheck" youtu.be/xcEvNwQ7v-U?...
Last night I heard Dillinger Four call themselves pop punk on stage so, I guess it's a spectrum.
Pop punk has always been political, as are all art forms. Anyone who says otherwise is both a poser and negligent to how the genre started and the constant themes of disobedience and defyance towards society.
"pop punk isn't political" meanwhile, pop punk:
I wanna see some naked dudes. That’s why I built this pool.
Communal area built to allow everyone to join as equals.
I went to a Blink-182 concert in ~2001 and between songs they were like, "Fuck Jesse Helms! What is he, the governor of South Carolina? Fuck him!" The facts weren't quite there but they had the spirit.
Two words: American Idiot
I recently attended a Bad Religion/Dropkick Murphy's concert. They definitely weren't policitical. Nope, not at all. (Sarcasm font)
Talk about your American Idiots...
It has always been political, you’re a dumbass and have completely missed the point if you think it’s never been political
As much as I hate to admit it, even Good Charlotte had some sense of class consciousness in their song Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
Like the time in school when they got free lunch and the cool kids beat them up?
I vaguely remember something about robbing rich people's mansions. Which I thought was funny, but didn't really track because they were probably pretty rich by that point. 😂😂😂
If money is such a problem, well they've got problems...
Me ( This /That )( when did human come to these designations)?
