Yes. Set a reminder. What I do is snoozing email that confirms my subscription / trial start to show up again in my inbox 3 days before it ends. Some companies gives you a heads up but that is rare.

Ah, maybe the trial there isn't an App Store trial but just something done locally?

Yes, I had it setup like this in my app for a while. Had to rip it out and replace with standard AppStore trial that converts to paid if you don’t cancel, because people were confused and accused me of scamming them, since this trial was not showing in AppStore account.
