Certainly true that the Bond novels are male wish-fulfillment fantasies (and a very specific male, too, that basically no longer existed when the movies started coming out); always thought that an updated, more realistic Bond would be an interesting proposition, but I'm mostly alone in that feeling

the only real update that would work is if Bond is a villain (Alan Moore did this.) but that wouldn't be a bond film, really.

Keep original type for novel Bond (military guy, cynical, hedonist, social climber who has been trained as master infiltrator and assassin)--UK reactivates '00' "License to Kill" section to do just that--21st cent. gov't assassins--sorta like Tom Tykwer's The International with a much bigger budget
