it was one of my favorite battle systems. dragon age 2 is the same but faster. least on pc. on console i think it was a hack n slash tho. like you have to hit the attack button instead of like pc. least iirc when i played it long long ago

IIRC Dragon Age 2 on pc felt very MMO style combat. The original is def in the spirit of your old dnd crpgs. Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, etc.
it was a faster dragon age iirc. and what i mean by that is it felt like the original combat on pc but at 3x speed. you CAN just play it like a mmo but i was always on the hardest difficulty so i always had the tactical style start of forcing my companions to do shit then started the fight.
but i do know what you mean it is in the original style just updated graphics for that. i honeslty can't recall if DA2 had a top down view or not. i think you just moved to the other character. btw DA2 is impressive cause they had a year to do that lol. EA forced it out early IIRC
I started playing it for the characters, story and lore, but that combat system had me truly hooked from beginning to end. I was a rogue, but the other characters were fun (and sometimes necessary) to control as well.
Its one of the reasons I love it so much, you can mix a lot of stuff and have fun with all the crazy spells, sneak around with the backstabs or go full ram on the enemies.
I still haven’t dabbled in rogue combat.
At one point, for some tougher fights (I played on Hard I think), I would slip my Warden in, a Rogue, drop a trap or two, get just the right angle, and agro 1 enemy at a time out of the group and pull him back to the rest of the group like I was playing bloody Everquest. LOL
Oooo that sounds fun. I haven’t really messed around with rogue. Everytime I try I mess up the stealth.
I basically always play rogues or stealth characters in RPGs, so I've had a lot of practice at it. Comes from always overthinking everything, so I like to take my time. Heh. But yeah, there being little stealth in later DAs was disappointing.
That entire bit leading up to the keep is devious.
