Back in the early 2000's, I taught some night classes for a local college, in the classroom for the ACU-5 unit. They have an interesting slogan: "No beach out of reach!"
I may adopt that slogan next time I go surfing. :)

They are. There is a navy installation on the nearby (to me) Camp Pendleton Marine base, called ACU-5, for Assault Craft Unit 5. Its a navy seal base where they train on assault craft.
But aren't they unbelievable loud?

I suppose the advantage is that hovercraft make ANY shore approachable and assaultable.
