When he says international nedia I'm guessing he means American because the rest of us in Europe know the history of Finland and Russia

I don't think so. Across Europe History is a core subject taught in primary and secondary school and the 2 world wars are usually part of this. Unless they are willfully ignorant they would have read/heard about it.

Trust me, Finish history was maybe give sentences in my Dutch secondary education. And if I talk about it here in Scotland with non history buffs they also have no idea, I am sure this is even worse in England because at least here struggle for independence is seen as something positive.

It is even worse because with too little context the Fins were said to have collaborated with the Nazis in my Dutch history book. I don't think I heard about the winter war and the continuation war before I went to St Petersburg in 1997 and I read about the local history of Karelia.
