I'm also frankly skeptical of anyone who calls Jewish politician "power-hungry monsters" in response to news that they're stepping aside.

Aside from that, I genuinely find it problematic when politicians try to anoint successors instead of letting the political process work. What you're describing is cronyism, and New York has had quite enough of that.
