I think I’m going to have to mix my patterning and draping and mockup. Chaos may yield great results. I don’t know. I’ve never worked without a pattern, it’s a big step forward in a dark room (lol)

Yeah, I just started in the last two years. I've been taking classes, so that's boosted my confidence, I think. I'm lazy, but mockups are the key, imo.

I think Donner and others often start at the very beginning from patterns from medieval finds and Patterns of fashion, though, that must help for sure! (I wanna make one too but I’m procrastinating years on everything sewing related so…)

In her videos on kirtles, she goes straight into patterning, without much of a look at historic dresses (except when discussing the lack of darts and the neckline). So here, no help at all for my problem 😅
