I spent about half of 2020-21 writing variations on the theme of "we must take drastic action to save the republic," alas what we actually got was "sweep everything under the rug and pretend it never happened" www.liberalcurrents.com/priority-one...

The next Dem presidential candidate must meet 2 criteria for me: 1) commit to pursuing, prosecuting and imprisoning all the regime's traitors, including member of Congress and 2) commit to expanding the Supreme Court. We will never go back to the way it was. We need democracy hardened and improved.

I’ve wondered lately about what to do with these masked ICE agents - I’d love to see them exposed, shamed, and unemployed but then I think about Iraq after the Iraqi Army was sent home. Maybe keep them on the payroll but take the guns and make them repair trails or help immigrants

There needs to be a constitutional amendmant stating that all US citizens and all person's on US soil are subject to all federal, state, county, city criminal and civil laws. This is to undue the presidential immunity

The Dems not backing their own party is making me crazy! There is 0 time for divided factions! What the Dems do not understand is how project 2025 has unified the GOP. They need to get their own unified strategy and it’s not casting out Mamdani. That’s a grassroots movement they should be studying.

Relatedly, a lot of us who voted for Obama wanted him to prioritize accountability for the CIA torturers and those who lied us into the Iraq war, and he swept that under the rug too. We have to stop letting violations of the essential principles of liberal democracy slide like this.

Agree but the majority of voting Americans seem to want “reality show entertainment” more than democracy.

And it can’t just be a priority for a democratic president. This has to be a priority for a democratic Congress to codify protections for democracy, rule of law, and our rights.

Any Dem president needs to force potential rotating villains into compliance

Something has to be done about Red America’s outsized influence n the government. They are over represented and on the whole drains on the federal treasury.

Exactly. The Obama legacy in a nutshell. Could there be a more disappointing President? I don’t see how.

Yep. Turns out that if someone attempts a coup and then are allowed to not spend the rest of their life going from jail cells to court rooms the outcome for everyone else is bad.

It was no surprise that Biden took the "sweep everything under the rug and pretend it never happened" approach since that's what Obama did during his presidency, too.
