And it's pretty likely that 0 of those pitchers will be pitching in the Major Leagues in 3 years when Juan Soto is still in the middle of his prime. Look, there was 0 excuse for the Mets to not retain Wheeler but that was under Wilpon and...yeah. Not much more needs to be said.

I recall Bassit's attitude was pretty negative towards the team / NYC media / clubhouse at the end. I feel like most of us were like, "well go away then" when it came time to not re-up him.

I seem to remember him not being a huge fan of NYC,either. He always had a problem with the media. And after the way he crapped the bed in the playoffs in 2022, I wasn't exactly heartbroken about him leaving.

It was reminiscent of Glavine's "oh well" exit. I never warmed up to Glavine being a Met either and it was just icing on the cake to see him seemingly selfdestruct the team when they needed a good outing theost.

To this day, seeing him makes me angry. He never wanted to be here, he ended up here just because the Braves refused to pay him. I will always believe he threw that game on purpose.

Absolutely. Wheeler is the only one I really regret of the 3. Notice how the post neglects mentioning that deGrom hated NY, and wanted out. He got his participation WS trophy for doing absolutely nothing, his big contract, and his red state life. His choice.

Also, this is NY, he was arguably the biggest pitcher in the city for years. During his downtime he could have totally parlayed his visibility into endorsements out the waa-zoo. Dude just never got into a NY state of mind.

I was about to mention that about DeGrom. He's done nothing for the Rangers until this season.

Lol. I can see him being traded to a contender.

Big question: Would the Mets take him back in a deal? I'm a big believer in vibes and feel he'd be cancerous in the clubhouse now.

I'm guessing he probably has a long NT list built into his contract. I agree with your thinking; this is tremendously unpopular, but I don't want him back. He can stay gone.

If he hated Queens, imagine how he feels about the Bronx.
