It seems to me that there is no middle ground anymore. Bare faced lying, to the detriment of the country, seems to get you promoted, some times even to the house for Lords. A mistake gets you pilloried.

Agreed. But we all have to follow the tax laws. Unless we are Oligarch, billionaires, CEO class or can afford tex companies to draft exclusion to benefit from.

& there's the rub. We SHOULD ALL have to follow the tax laws, but that's not what happens. I'd put money on there being more than one of the MPS baying for her blood that are involved in tax avoidance schemes (not illegal) & we all know that some of these are ultimately ruled as evasion....
...after which the "clever" tax lawyer is blamed, a fine is paid, and we all start again. I just hope that ALL MPs' tax affairs are now investigated with equal vigour and with equal punishment, but I won't hold my breath.
