As of August 27, 2025, there have been 286 reported mass shootings in the United States this year. There have been at least 57 school shootings in the U.S. in 2025 .

Minnesota has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. Unfortunately the problem goes way beyond guns. The solutions to violence of all types are universal mental health care, end the war on drugs, developing a first world social safety net & infrastructure. Poverty is the mother of crime.

Well, and the guns. Not disagreeing with a lot of your points but those kids were killed and terrorized by a gun. How these children were killed wouldn’t have happened without guns.

The gun violence will never end here. Ever. However, it could be refocused on folks who really shouldn’t live among us anyway. I can think of many folks whose departure would enhance the existence of ordinary folks. And perhaps THEN those left might rethink their priorities.

One of the questions on the NICS background check : Is the gun buyer mentally defective? But HIPAA privacy laws prevent authorities from verifying that. HIPAA laws must be loosened to allow limited access to an applicant's mental history.
