If these aren't recovered, some paleontologist centuries from now is gonna have a VERY weird day... π§ͺ

Wow, wtf UPS.
This story, though, reminds me of my first excavation in Greece. I was in charge of a trench, and we just kept pulling out pot after pot. I was *so* excited to show the dig director... who laughed and told me that it was a spoil heap from a previous, century-old excavation. π
Spoil heap!
So relatable "oh but either Daressy or Reisner had a spoilheap on their plan somewhere"...ok...maybe...tell me beforehand? We found a lot of stuff in these spoilheaps though.
That poor professor. What a loss.
This is something I spend a lot of time doing as part of my State Geologist core mission - trying to prevent valuable collections from winding up in the landfill. I wish folks would reach out to surveys whenever something like this is looming on the horizon.
Oh dear. 'unidentified landfill somewhere in the vicinity of' ... sounds like he might have a better chance of finding Jimmy Hoffa then getting his collection back. I can't believe UPS accepted the packages initially or didn't call saying 'Hey, your account was cancelled'.
My Dad's alma mater, lol.
