To me, the series that carried strategic shmup play past the arcade era was R-Type

went back and 1CCd Life Force. general consensus seems to be that this game is easier, which I do get (recovering from a death with the Lord British is really simple), but they took away a really useful safe spot (and made the boss possible without it) and added a REALLY nasty enemy swarm in 1-5 lol

the 4th boss is bugged, it's not suppose to shoot out as many balls as it does. that was fixed in life force jp
