They need to abolish DHS
They need to abolish DHS
This is the way.
DHS has the secret service and the Coast Guard so far as I am aware, so not all bad, but absolutely we'll need to root out MAGAts across the executive branch, top to bottom.
They can just go back to the executive branch and DOT where they came from.
Do you think the coast guard and secret service don’t exist before DHS was created after 9/11?
Why the fuck would I think that. I'm arguing against the DHS being abolished entirely. Do you think the Coast Guard should go back to the Department of Transportation and that the Secret Service should go back to the Department of the Treasury?
they won’t be returned to their original agencies as the USCG actually saw a budget boost when viewed as law enforcement & not just rescuing swimmers, DHS isn’t the problem it’s the people currently in charge & ice wasn’t a gestapo agency under Biden, the country needs immigration reform not sadists
Exactly what I'm thinking. As far as the Coast Guard getting a budget boost, that's probably a good thing. Anyone who thought they only ever rescued swimmers was wrong, they are part of the armed forces, and do transfer to the Department of Defense in times of war. Nice to see a voice of reason.
Yes it’s a military branch and should just be department of defense all the time.
Interesting, I thought you wanted them back in the Department of Transportation because that "worked fine" Besides, their primary role is policing, unlike every other armed force in the U.S. That alone is probably enough of a reason to throw them in a branch with other federal police forces...
But they were also underfunded during their time in the DOT. I'd say the DHS is a good fit.
Cool thankfully the world and government doesn’t have to listen to you or me. And it’s not to up us.
Nothing else to say other than 'well this conversation didn't matter anyways'. Classy. It's okay to disagree, but this is unsightly.
I said it did work fine for decades which is true. You don’t seem to understand nuance or compromise which is why our side never gets shit done. It’s all or nothing and that shit doesnt work in a democracy
My side? You know nothing about the nuances of my political views but go ahead and generalize me so I'm easier to malign.
And I said our side dummy not yours.
Trying to use big words doesn’t make you sound smart like you think it does. You’re super see through, pretentious, and pompous who knows nothing about the real world. So do yourself a favor and shut the fuck up.
Yes they should. They worked fine for decades.
Appeal to tradition is like the oldest trick on the conservative handbook. You should know better.
Don’t conflate keeping something that works with tradition. Those are two separate things and you know it. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Just because "it ain't broke" doesn't mean it can't work better. In any case the coast guard "ain't broke" now, but "fixing it" by removing them from the DHS seems to be what you're advocating for.
Of course it can work better. No one said it can’t. It should be a DOD branch. They literally guard our coastal borders from all sorts of threats and are a military branch. DHS should go bye bye
I just left a reply on my other sub thread you responded to making the same point. (Mostly for spectators, I know you get notified)
Also I can tell everything you learned about the coast guard you got from chatgpt.
Actually I got no notifications. You’re not that important.
Because you offered up those agencies as a defense to not abolishing DHS, when they could easily be returned their original departments. you said what you said.
The current organization of the DHS makes logical sense. There is no reason to disband it. I offered those two agencies as examples of reasonable responsibilities of the DHS. Disbanding it as soon as Democrats are in power because the Trump administration misused ICE would be stupid and pointless.
The Patriot Act was Dick Cheney’s idea, a man who bumped around Govt. since the 60s and always had 1 complaint, The Constitution was a Problem, DHS was created with that thought
"Homeland" is a very specific title selection. A very ugly one. And the Patriot Act never should have passed.
💯, my 1st thought was “Fatherland”
Bingo!
The fact that they used the word Homeland instead of Domestic told us everything we needed to know.
Completely agree I said it when it was created, it was a monster created for someone to come along and abuse it, FEMA staffers are currently being reassigned to ICE, other agencies have lost their Discipline, the Patriot Act should never have been passed which created DHS
The DHS was created by the Homeland Security Act, not the Patriot Act. This is blatant misinformation. I 100% agree that the Patriot Act is an absolute failure of our country, it is up there among the pieces of legislation which I despise the most.
Are you just trying to lump the DHS in with the Patriot Act to borrow some of the negative connotations?
Man DHS was the Bill that created DHS
Sorry I’m excited The Patriot Act was the Bill that created DHS
And I stand by that all those agencies should never have been folded into DHS, the TSA could have been a stand alone agency
Okay then, I'll bite. I don't think I've seen a good explanation yet for why the DHS should be dissolved. Care to elaborate?
Another point is this, and it’s just my viewpoint, our Govt. is always supposed to work on a system of checks & balances, if all these agencies fold into DHS, where is the check on DHS?? The media?? The Courts?? Who investigates that Department??
It's been the courts and congress it's always been the courts and congress. Whether or not the FBI or the CIA is part of the DHS, they are part of the Executive Branch. I don't think gathering them into a department is somehow making it easier for them to get away with shit.
Am all encompassing agency that can control every other agency that’s my problem with it, if you have no problem with it, it’s none of my concern, I’m older than this system, 9/11 came. the CIA and the military tracked down Bin Laden and killed him, DHS had no hand in it
It seems unlikely to me that the DHS would be in charge of a large operation outside of the US anyways. Regardless, they all fall under the executive branch, anyways. Organizing agencies with overlapping missions under the same branch just seems... efficient to me.
Ok I’ll take Homeland Security Act, either way I stand by DHS should never have been created
Can’t those just be separated out?
There's a reason that DHS has them now lol - restructuring a logical partition of resources in the executive branch for semantics sake seems excessive.
No, it was absolutely unnecessary in the first place. The Patriot Act is a violation of our 4th amendment rights, and everything about it needs to be abolished.
I think you confused the Patriot act with the Homeland Security Act. They are distinct.
The patriot act has nothing to do with this lmao. The Coast Guard became part of the Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003. This transfer was a result of the Homeland Security Act of 2002. Prior to this, the Coast Guard had been part of the Department of Transportation since 1967.
The U.S. Secret Service was transferred to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on March 1, 2003 at the same time as the coast guard. Prior to this, it was with the Department of the Treasury.
You’re right. But I cannot lol
