German grandparents and dad raised in Germany here. Thinking about applying for a different passport.

We were in Germany in March (we're Australian) and twice our trains were stopped and we were asked for our passports. First time we were coming from Czechia and the other we'd been in Austria.

It was routine, we didn't feel threatened, but there were several uniformed people involved in the process. Our kid lives there and had told us it was likely to occur, particularly on the trip from Prague.

Ohhhh gotcha. It sounds like it must have been a beautiful trip otherwise.

She said it's becoming more frequent. Thing is, we're white and I assume the colour of our passports mean the soldiers just ignored us. I'd never been OS before, we went all over in the month, Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, Czechia, Germany and a day on trains in Switzerland, it was wonderful.

Western Europe has had issues with Russian sabotage outfits roaming around causing trouble. Could be a reason for the spot checks.

Oh, that would certainly be a reason for wanting to check people.
