In these last weeks of summer I’m still trying to figure out what I want my backyard space to be in Year 2, but I’m also okay with what I got done in Year 1.

A mix of annuals and perennials. I need more bushes and uprights to fill it out but those are expensive and I don’t know if you’ve heard but there’s a tariff thing going on. (Cedar trellises currently cost as much as wrought iron, it’s dumb.)

I’d like to build my own but what you also don’t see are the 20-odd projects inside the house, also unfinished. Plus, you know, my other jobs (mom, wife, Arena, writing, bath taking, migraineur).

I did buy like 100 bulbs (no joke) for spring, but those will go in the front. I intend to use a power tool.
