My take on sports is that I follow sports and watch a lot of sports, but sports is a net negative for society, but it’s not worth the political capital to be negative towards as other things are much worse.

The fact that the two most popular sports in America give participants brain damage is very bad. Soccer is almost comically corrupt and funds it supports many horrible things. Sports teams in the US successfully blackmail cities into paying for their stadiums, sports games and gambling (cont)
Are basically criminal, sports tends to deify a lot of rapists, etc. But it’s a lot less bad than like churches or agriculture so.
I see sports as more or less intrinsic to humanity so it would be futile to be against them, per se. What is worthwhile is illuminating and trying to reform/mitigate the negative or pernicious aspects like gambling, corruption, CTE, etc. All that stuff should be exposed as much as possible.
Sports gambling, on the other hand, is so negative that it's worth the capital to be against it. Absolutely toxic for society
