Glad we're trying to get out of here even more now.
This is so grim.
no 😭 I hate it
What are kindergartners going to sell? In an LLC? And what happens when a big corporation wants to buy out the little tikes’ lemonade stands? Will the kindergartners be required to develop an app for POS?
Grooming much?
"Why have all the 1st graders started taking anxiety medication?"
At which grade level does "learn to exploit others" appear?
This is some diabolical shit.
I’m stuck on the first row…which is meaningless. Their work ethic is inherently part of their grade, but a grade is often not indicative of any individual’s work ethic. If the kids do the work, I can evaluate their grasp of my subjects. Getting them to work is the hard part of the job.
But all of this is awful. We have various types of business classes in HS for kids who are interested, but preparing 12 year olds for job interviews? And “marketing” themselves? 🤦♂️
Kindergarteners will “Explore career choices and identify the knowledge and skills associated with different types of careers.” Hopefully that’s a fancy way of describing a visit to the fire station.
Someone with a surface-level knowledge of Bloom’s taxonomy and no desire to learn more put this together
seems like an AI created rubric. towards the bottom it calls for k-2 students to identify their skills and interests.
AI or someone whose never spent any actual time with a child. I’d love to know what my ECE professors thought of this nonsense.
Capitalism is a cult.
Planning for their career is the last thing a 6-year-old needs to worry about What a shockingly out-of-touch policy
evil evil evil
wow.I was playing with toy trucks and blowing bubbles in my milk. A personal brand? Do they think we're cows?
It's like business school for children, weird
The content creator-ification of our lives continues apace.
As a teacher, this shit sickens me. Kindergartners need to learn number sense and letters, not entrepreneurship, ffs!
Hillsdale's rationale for classical ed rests on explicit rejection of "corporate interests" in education and I really think it's possible to make much more inclusive, POPULAR arguments for teaching literature in schools
I keep saying this: book bans are part of a much broader, maybe even uglier, issue
It’s important to say that students are more than just future workers, and that reading and writing about literature are for more than just developing “job skills”
Absolutely
I won’t go off on the history of American public education. I won’t go off on the history of American public education. I won’t go off on the history of American public education.
Can you share the source for this? I'm working on something related!
at school now, will get it to you later!!
Thanks so much. I’d love to interview you for the piece I’m working on!
P 13 for starters, there's another doc too that I'm trying to find-- k12.hillsdale.edu/k12/media/Do...
Thanks - very helpful!
No problem, will keep digging (have read a lot about it recently, so many PDFs and open tabs), and happy to talk sometime if that'd be helpful too
I’d love to chat. Will follow up by email!
Whatever the problem is, Hillsdale is not the solution.
What... the... fuck....
The rights of workers section for that grade level is left "intentionally blank" for Pete's sake!
Absolute insanity. Have any of these people spent 20 mins in a room with 25+ 5 & 6 yr olds?
I can tell you, no, they have not.
lol right. Kind of rhetorical question.
time to self-deport
Fucking christ
about time, all the 5 year olds i know are terrible brand ambassadors
oh god
We should be “banning the concept of ‘personal brands,’” instead! 🤷♂️
That’s wrong.
How so?
A reply tailored to “bluesky” would have simply noted that cattle are branded; and in so much as they are able to escape capture cattle are entrepreneurial. 😊
A human being shouldn’t aspire to being/having a “personal brand” (not as the term is understood in ordinary language). As for the entrepreneurial aspect, so long as it is treated as a pursuit among many other equally worthy life paths then fine. 1/2
Human beings, to me, are living beings with intellectual/emotional/spiritual needs/attributes that sb in an environment that nurture and allow those needs to freely develop. Human life is an artistic existence and sb viewed as such.
Marketing yourself as a job candidate begins in grade 6? They are getting serious about the child labour I guess.
I am sorry, but WTF?
This is fully too easy to satirize. Although the "developing a personal brand" language is icky, it does feel somewhat grade-appropriate.
*I* don’t want to learn that. It’s evident that these jackals have not tried to explain economics to children before, because this is how you make a generation of completely nihilistic anticapitalists.
This is all part of another long term game plan by the right to impose their amoral will on Americans. Will we be able to stop it this time?
but not workers' rights.
This is the "personal brand" these "standards" are looking for. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
🤦🏼♀️ I have a PhD in consumer psychology, and I HATE the whole concept of your personal brand. Way too self conscious and annoying.
And for most, absolutely pointless
The worst in when HR and employers in general started asking about it in job interviews. Unless you’re in entertainment or are trying to earn a living as an influencer, it’s totally irrelevant.
Talk about indoctrination.
I cracked up at "Rights of workers: (Intentionally blank)"
This is so goddamn stupid.
That is genuinely one of the most impoverished approaches to historical thinking I have ever read.
