many billionaires promise their wealth towards solving poverty on the condition that someone will tell then how to do it knowing that there is no solution to poverty that won't "upset the economy" and thus they can safely dismiss it our economy relies on maintaining this poverty

mind, capitalists are always allowed to upset the economy when it benefits them they don't have to hear any patronising "see, it's not so simple" remarks when their fascination with llms causes thousands to lose their jobs

They also don't really care when any solution is provided. Musk famously challenged the UN to make a detailed breakdown on how 6 billion could solve world hunger. Was the plan perfect? No. It doesn't matter because the billionaires have an interest in the system staying as is. They wouldn't help.

i wonder what it's like to be one of those un pundits, tbh whether they actually thought there's any chance musk would ever agree with them because what are they even flying around the world to all these meetings for otherwise

They get paid either way, I imagine. Might as well fly to all the meetings. Meetings, you see, is how we know work is real.

i legit used to be jealous about how people in fancy schools got to do some kind of model un exercise because it sounded fun i realise the larp of being one of the Serious Functionaries Preventing World War III is probably part of the appeal of working for the real un too

Yeah, definitely. That's probably a big reason people got into that job in the first place. Making a difference and all that, though I don't feel that the UN *does* that anyway. Slightly related, UN exercise just makes me think of this
