what is the point of a democratic party that is indistinguishable from republicans on issues like civil rights for lgbtq people and immigration, allegedly core issues central to their identity

now now we have to focus on “kitchen table issues” everything else is a distraction (/s to make sure I didn’t get bsky’d)
what exactly does a gavin newsom democrat stand for beyond "trump bad"? how is that a vision you can sell the country on?
in 2028 they'll have a candidate walk up to a podium and go "Trump bad!" *loud cheers from the crowd in agreement* then they'll walk off stage
And then in debates, they just say "Trump bad!" for every response
Two party system does not work, we need a parliamentary system with multiple parties that work together in coalition against authoritarianism but allow people to focus on their core issues.
i’d definitely very much prefer that
Idk nationally but there’s a hell of difference locally & regionally where I live. they are not indistinguishable here. living in the South, I have great clarity on this. & I know this because I have been to the meetings & done the work. the folks I interact with are livid & pushing for change.
it’s national leadership that needs to go is the thing. lots of state level dems don’t suck, speaking as someone who lives w jb pritzker as their governor.
I agree. not sure if we can shed them completely. the upcoming primaries may be our last opportunity. i do think the New York delegation is the worst in the country. they more than any other state, are beholden to the monied interests. AOC being a notable exception.
agreed but off topic for a moment I’m angry this didn’t show on my following tab, where is spend most of my time
