They don’t want to waste hydrogen on something where its energy/weight ratio doesn’t really matter? But they likely still want to waste it on cars?

It’s also about end to end efficiency. That’s what kills H2 for ALL land transport and probably sea and air also.

Yeah, for air transport also the weight for tanks will probably kill it. Unless you store it in a very large textile hull – oh wait, that didn’t turn out well in the past 😆
