I found some strange criticism of my recent video that argued a core piece of evidence is in fact untrue. Specifically, that Tomino did not thank female fans for Gundam's success. I have spent the last half hour trying to find proof I was wrong. ... I instead found more evidence I am right.

This is also doing Sebulba pretty dirty. People still hang on to the myth of fujoshi saving Gundam when in fact it was a BUNCH of factors, not just one. This confusing form of gatekeeping is a tactic I refer to as intimidaton.

It’s probably because Gundam was incredibly popular in the boy’s love scene and had a significant impact on it, so it’s safe to say that some of those female fans were fujoshi. Like, when I say Gundam was saved by fujoshi, I say it mostly jokingly.
Also, I’ve noticed that now that I’ve gotten older, I’m way more accepting/casual to the existence of yaoi/boy’s love in fandom spaces. When I was younger, I’d use to have a way more negative reaction to it.

Yeah, no, Gunpla absolutely did not save Gundam. Gunpla didn't start actually selling until well after the fujoshis saved Gundam if my memory is to be trusted. Like I wanna say that it was half way through Zeta that Gunpla started being viable, and Zeta wouldn't have happened without the fujoshis.
Admittedly, I have heard that Tomino directly credited both female fans *and* fujoshis for saving Gundam (hence why I kinda use 'em interchangeably mainly for character limits in the previous post) but I could be misremembering that bit.
