The CBA requires that teams fully fund the present day value of deferred payments within two years of when it’s earned. Contract deferrals are not the blank checks that so many believe them to be.

If I’m Mark Walter and I have a net worth of 12b what does it matter if I have $700m in escrow fund earning me interest when I normally would have billions parked all over anyway.I’m not spending the money now. So it really is not consequence to them, they are hoarding cash and players simultaneously
Ok. But, stating that the ownership group is so wealthy that spending money (or placing it in escrow) doesn’t matter to them is different from saying they aren’t paying anything.
They aren’t paying it, they are literally keeping it in the bank or an investment. I will concede it could go down in value in a crash or that there may be a potential opportunity cost in some other arena at some point but since they are baseball focused they aren’t really worried about that.
