I think this is likely very true. It was never about just a "pee tape". Also, Putin does of course have Trump's complete history as a Russian agent which would reveal him as a traitor - even MAGA probably couldn't accept that.

Except right-wing media has been working for a long time to alter opinions of Russia and Putin, apparently to good effect given recent polling on the matter. MAGA will become convinced that Putin is a good guy and Russian control is fine.
