Besides the point, but why does Columbus have a Spanish accent?
Besides the point, but why does Columbus have a Spanish accent?
I hate this so so much
Also Chris did kill A LOT of people and most slavery was not based on the colour of the skin of people but nationality
That’s an Italian accent, because the American settlers and Pioneers came from Europe, they just don’t teach that in school anymore they teach kids that Yakub created Columbus on the high seas in a tube
Why does the American school system think this guy needs a new English name? His name was Cristoforo Columbo, why we gotta pretend he has a more English sounding name? No less the whole "discovering America" bullshit. He discovered Hispaniola. He wasn't anywhere near the USA!!!
OOH OOH I know! Because the asshats who made this don't know anything about history!
No I’m pretty sure he was American, like Jesus.
And Winston Churchill.
So good!
What language do you think he used in a ship full of Spaniards? Some historians think he lied about being born in Genoa bc he was really Sephardic..
They’re not smart? And you’re not supposed to be able to discern between Spanish & Italian accents.
I’m a 🐶 in 🇨🇦 and even I know Columbus was Italian for crying out loud! PragerU…where the “U” stands for Uneducated
I have a feeling that’s the general “others” accent this administration will acknowledge.
The producer is illiterate?
Yeah. Everybody knows that Columbus said, "The world, she's-a-round!" in English, with a broad Italian accent. That's just basic Looney Tunes.
Because when they made him speak-a like Mario, people laughed the wrong way.
Maga is the only demographic that considers putting on an Italian accent to be racist
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING
DC v Heller 2nd Amendment Prefatory Clause P implies Operatonal Clause O P implies O = Not(P and (not 0)) Consider P ("A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state,") to have been a true statement in 1791 and a false statement in 2008 and today. A militia
well regulated or otherwise is not necessary today. P being false O can be either true or false. Either way the 2nd amendment is a true statement. The ambiguity of the 2nd amendment is unresovable by either text or the doctrine of originalism.
Great new MAGA slogan: being a sl@ve is better than being de@d, no?
If this happens, can PBS sue for viewpoint discrimination?
I suspect the morons at Prager dont know Columbus was Italian.
These people don't seem to be super-interested in drawing fine lines of distinction between various groups of foreigners...
Wow. I think it’s supposed to be Italian. Just off-kilter like the info he presents.
Because Prager U is that sloppy. It's a plague on social studies education.
They probably used AI slop to make this show.
Because he sailed for Spain and these are very stupid people who never thought past that.
Columbus was a Spanish Jew most likely.
And you think he’d sound like that?
I don’t think he would be speaking English, no.
For the same reason Dennis Prager has an American accent: they're both poorly made two-dimensional propaganda tools.
And some 2003 SciFi Channel CHILDREN OF DUNE-style eyes of Ibad? Wait, was Columbus addicted to the geriatric spice Melange? Is that the spice he thought was in the East Indies?
PBS doesn't get government funding. How can the government determine what the programming is?
'cause these people are malicious idiots
Columbus is a latino, you didn't know???
Wishing Prager a slow, excruciating recovery from the severe back injury he recently experienced.
Little ray of sunshine. Thanks!
When you’re making everything up you can’t let reality get in the way.
what on earth is this entire video
He sailed from Spain and that was all the research they did.
‘cause all of these colonizing romanticizers have a grade-school understanding of history and to, say, “the New Netherland Colony” with a glassy stare
*and respond to, say,
They think it was founded by Captain Hook.
WTF?
Because they suck at history.
Probably a well-educated man who knew Spanish and the proper way to pronounce it, and to a likely predominantly Spanish crew, sooo -- given his employ and all...
But the English?? Y'got me...
Italian accents, notoriously difficult to do.
Positive portrayal of Columbus is DEI for Ethnic Whites.
Obviously, you haven't checked your new Prager geography textbook yet. Genoa is in Spain, duh.
I mean, it is in the closer-to-Spain part of Italy. :)
In my head cannon be has Chris Pratt’s Italian Joke accident from the Mario Brothers movie.
"People I just met" he seems to slip into urban Irish.
Because that's the only accent the bottom tier voice actor they hired is capable of
I don't know what accent this is, but it ain't Spanish.
A poor attempt at something.
Furrin
Surely the budget could stretch to an authentic Genoese accent? They got everything else so pinpoint accurate.
I never like Columbus, because he was from Genoa
Related, they should keep the holiday and replace Columbus with a real Italian, one of our own who isn't divisive, to keep the original spirit of the holiday. Colorado has already done this. I nominate Yogi Berra as the new face of Columbus Day. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frances...
West Coast votes for Joe DiMaggio Day.
All Columbus statues replaced with Scorsese statues, but taller.
Scorsese is not one I've heard thrown out often, but now that I think about it, "Scorsese Circle" in NYC would kick ass.
Frank Sinatra would probably be more unifying and he had a history of standing up to racism
He voted Reagan in the 80s.
Or do a “Hegseth” and designate the holiday to celebrate filmmaker Chris Columbus for his Home Alone, Harry Potter, and other movies rather than the Italian guy who got lost on his way to India and found himself in the West Indies.
Garibaldi!
Because it's romantic?
😂 Spanish, Italian. You're so picky.
Accent:foreign Variety: latin
Ferdinand and Isabella insisted he speak with one.
www.vox.com/today-explai...
Christopher Columbus primarily spoke and wrote in Latin, Portuguese, and Spanish. Italy didn’t even exists for hundreds of years until after he died. Nobody in Europe considered him Italian, only Americans. Cheers.
Genoa crying and throwing up rn
Really making sure you see he has blue eyes as well
Were his eyes blue? The portraits I recall looked like he had brown eyes. And that's some blue. that's Reply button blue.
Because why be historically accurate when you are being historically inaccurate?
Lol, I bet it's because the lazy people who made it a) don't know where Genoa is and b) it's where he's buried. Funny thing about the Spain thing: they joke that he's traveled more in death than in life. Currently his tomb is in the (beautiful) Cathedral of Saint Mary in Seville.
But his body spent 100 years in a cemetery in Cuba before being returned to Europe-without DNA testing it’s a toss up whether his coffin in Seville Cathedral actually contains his remains
Right wing propaganda... directed at our children
With bright blue eyes, no less.
And blue eyes? Is that canonical?
The vivid blue eyes are a weird deviation from consensus reality too… Turns out his eyes were blue but more like that sociopathic light blue shade than I shoot up teletubbies pituitary gland blue.
Because he discovered Mexico.
He was showing deference and respect for the Spanish money that got him there? Or, ignorance.
