His indictment reads whatnow?! www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Jane Street Boss Says He Was Duped Into Funding AK-47s for Coup By Ava Benny-Morrison and Sridhar Natarajan (Bloomberg) -- The indictment reads like a cinematic plot: A Harvard Fellow and another activist allegedly wanted to buy AK-47s, Stinger missiles and grenades to topple South Sudan’s government. What they lacked was enough cash. Now, Jane Street co-founder Robert Granieri concedes he put up the money — saying he was duped into funding the alleged coup plot. The role played by the wealthy recluse behind a Wall Street trading powerhouse emerges from the US prosecution of Peter Ajak, the Harvard Fellow who was accused last year of scheming to install himself atop the East African nation. “Granieri is a longtime supporter of human rights causes,” his lawyer said in a statement. “In this case, the person Rob thought was a human rights activist defrauded Rob and lied about his intentions.”

Freelancing civil war in an impoverished country is so edgy and glamorous.

clearly this guy's tax rate needs to be increased, he doesn't even know which side he's throwing money at.

His Wikipedia page reads very differently. It makes him sound like a somewhat prominent peace activist. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_B...

I am ignorant but it looks astroturfed to me - just one paragraph about the international weapons smuggling conspiracy charges haha

Yeah could be either at this point. If he was defrauded it makes more sense now as the person who defrauded him seems actually prominent. If not and this is astroturfed, that would also make sense.

Ok so read the article George attached. It sounds to me like the peace activist (who Kasparov, yes that Kasparov, also supported) gave up on peaceful methods of addressing South Sudan's awful government and democratic backslide. Understandable, but also a bad decision.
