А complete meltdown 🤒
He’s right on this one
Quick. Someone tell Trump high fructose corn syrup is made in the great Gulf of America and the US collects a lot of tariff revenue from its importation.
What's the tariff rate on imported cane sugar these days?
15 cents/lb which is actually lower than I thought!
actually 16 cents refined
It costs a lot more to import the cane sugar than it does to melt down corn, doesn't it?
Yes, but also no. As I understand it the corn subsidies invert the natural cost structure.
Sugar is subsidized too. So this will be a fun war between Florida and Louisiana vs. Iowa and the other corn belt states.
Well considering what country is the largest producer of sugarcane it will definitely cost more to import cane sugar 50% more to be exact
Good thing we don’t tariff the country that makes most cane sugar…
The free market, everyone
this seems odd, right?
Mexican Coke is worse :(
Just put the cocaine back in coke.
Obviously a matter of national security
mexico is allowed to do the freud paper about cocaine 1880s and America is not allowed to question mexico till fifty years later 1930s (freud died in 1939) I am not going to laboratorate … I mean elaborate the horrors beetween US and Mexico from 1910 to 2025; but call it JUsTICE
Think of how happy the corn syrup guys will be. The bottling machinery will have to change from liquid to powder, making manufacturing jobs. Also more line employees, sugar clumps in moist environments. They'll be stopping the line to unblock the sugar. I'm allergic to corn, so it's good for me..
I think the kosher coke (typically featuring a yellow cap) is also made with “real” sugar
We're renaming it Coke of America now
republicans in corn belt swing states pulling on their collars uncomfortably: "great idea, boss!"
Good thing the US produces lots of cane sugar, unaffected by tarrifs, and red states aren't heavily invested in HFCS.
Isn’t Brazil the largest producer of cane sugar? The same Brazil that now has 50% tariffs?
Need the real thing to wash down all the 🌮 🌮 🌮
diet coke with real cane sugar
give him as much as he wants
This is Hawaii erasure.
Should be fine as long as we don't need anything from Brazil
So more imports from Brazil and India, then? (These two countries account for nearly 40% of the world sugar market) The US uses far more cane sugar than it can produce, and 60% of our table sugar is made from beets, not cane
So this is why Ernst is retiring
Iowan corn lobby must be super happy right now
exactly my thoughts
Also when you put sucrose in a bottle with acid it breaks down into fructose and glucose anyway; the health benefits of cane sugar soda are pretty much imaginary youtu.be/NY66qpMFOYo
Also, Mexico limits the amount of sugar in soft drinks by law. Coke sold within Mexico has reduced sugar with other sweeteners added. "Mexican Coke" is an export only product.
I'm assuming cane sugar makes it harder to keep the product flavor-stable, or that there's some other disadvantage to using it or they'd be using it now
It’s more expensive. And we’ll see if they actually comply or just humor him. And while some sugar cane is grown in the US- lots more corn is grown here.
I thought so: I'm sure it's more of a pain in processing, as well
Also Brazil produces 38% of all sugarcane in the world, so it is almost like he doesn't know what he is doing
I’d vote for him for a third term if he made this happen.
Yeah, this is what this POS should be focusing on. It’s still all about him.
Midwest farm economy destroyed
Countdown to the Coca-Cola Company sheepishly clarifying that, no, they did not decide to reformulate their syrup manufacturing process and plant and breach corn syrup contracts just because Donald Trump randomly called the CEO and he was flustered/chickenshit and humored Trump
"good idea, we will do that at Passover, like we do every year."
To the point above, Coke CEO told the ajc they didn't agree to anything on the call.
Better start growing some sugar cane. Also, tell Archer Daniels Midland they can lay off the corn now.
Apparently the tariffs weren’t bankrupting corn farmers fast enough.
How has a corporation "agreed" to do anything this clown says. You know, you can say no to him, and he just pouts and moves on to the next scam.
chuck grassley must be spinning in his grave wait really? well good for him still a senator? seriously? THIRD IN LINE??
What is interesting is how the rest of the world uses cane sugar but the US doesn’t. Cane sugar is cheaper but not in the US where the government intervenes so that cane sugar is more expensive. Another example of corporate welfare at our expense.
I'm told by reliable sources that Jeffrey Epstein liked Coke with real sugar. (No, Trump does NOT get to change the subject)
this kills the iowan
Can we get the cocaine back in it too
This is like the 1st time I have agreed with DJT. That said, I could see the corn lobby making them walk this back.
Along with tariffs and crushing his opponents, the taste of Coca-Cola is one of the few things he genuinely cares about
Isn’t he a Diet Coke guy??
Doesn’t he drink diet coke though? It sticks with me cuz I find it so gross.
Sick, twisted stuff. And he claims he doesn’t do drugs.
He drinks Diet Coke so this won't help him at all.
Doesn’t russia sell a lot of cane sugar?
And real cocaine for the real coke rush?
I could see QFK incorporating this into the MAHA agenda.
Hegseth is unilaterally and illegally stopping arms shipments to Ukraine because the President is too busy on the phone talking to Coca-Cola. What a pathetic joke.
Anything to crush a midwestern farmer, once again
