May numbers….
You're doing a lousy job lately of confirming my biases.
The economy's dick continues to be impervious to the slams of the car door.
Most recent release, this data is lagged. Also, we never saw large selling in April, which was the only month that had the sort of "dollar down, rates up" price action consistently which would be consistent with capital flight. Don't form a cope habit people.
Cope habits while Trump is being dragged by the same conditions that dragged Biden: Inflation and interest rates, and neither are looking good in the near future.
Where else would they go?
IMO, until Trump messes with the Fed, an uncertain U.S. is still more appealing than a stable Canada, Australia, E.U., etc to investors
If a European fund asks a European bank to hedge its dollar exposure, doesn't this lead the bank to in turn hedge by buying USTs (chain can be more complex ofc)?
Not necessarily! I mean, probably, but the Eurodollar market does exist.
But ultimately if someone outside the US wants to hedge dollars, chances are someone else outside the US will end up with USTs, however long the chain of transactions?
They have to hold US dollar denominated assets, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are US treasuries.
Only Canada it seems. -$58B in April, then +$62B in May
I guess the rumors about Carney causing the TACO were true.
Sometimes I don't like you people in the reality-based community. Actually, I do like this b/c the alternative is B A D bad.
What are the alternatives out there to US treasuries? I think the smell of stink on the US is already out there in the ether but there are simply no options for large institutional investors.
Yep. I'm not going to buy them, but I don't have to.
were so fucked the economy crashing was the only "easy" way out. its gonna take the rest of our lives at least to get a better world
