It’s because they are too leveraged in it. It’s like when VC over-invested in Uber in the 2010s under the assumption autonomous vehicles were imminent and would revolutionize the company’s cost structure, only for AVs to be delayed a decade and for now are still more expensive than humans drivers.

Consumption utopia isn’t really utopia. It’s a society where everyone has enough money to afford (basic) goods but that’s where their money finishes. I think (more than) half of US population already live like this.
