It feels like they googled "what is the earliest use of AI in games" and completely uncritically included the genAI summary. With absolutely zero understanding that game-logic AI and LLM generative AI are entirely different things.
To be fair "enemy AI" is a term of art here. But the kind of logic used to drive enemy behavior in Pac-Man is completely different than modern AI — for one, Pac-Man enemy AI is fully understandable while LLMs are not
it's a distinction that anyone who is even passingly familiar with the field should notice and that should jump out at them, which suggests that literally no one who read this paragraph throughout the editorial process knows anything about the subject matter
