It is genuinely bizarre how many people have decided that Democrats campaigning on the negative effects of Republican politics is a moral indictment of Democrats.

The specifically articulated strategy of the democrats since Trump took office has been, “stand back and wait.” There is no shortage of Schumer quotes to that effect. Now, Senate Dems did good work stripping shit out of that bill! But that doesn’t make people forget about the “wait & see” strategy.

Yes and I literally said they did a good job, and have been saying it. But as good as he may be at managing the Senate coalition at times, Schumer is an incredibly, generationally bad communicator. People do not trust or like him, for good reason.

Dems make promises, "This is the most important election of our lifetime", and somehow can't deliver whenever they have majorities, unlike the GOP does. They can't impede when they have a minority, unlike how the GOP does. Continuing to vote in GOP justices instead of gumming up the works.

Nobody wants to say it, but the people who "failed to prevent" the awful Republican budget bill aren't Congressional Democrats, it's voters. Sure, but you're also misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm not interested in exonerating voters for making bad choices, that'd be silly. But managing these sorts of low-information voters is also a primary project of electoral politics, since inevitably, they're the ones whose choice is in flux.

Elections are the primary way we have to move the needle. And when the stakes are so high, it only makes sense to discuss every option available to shift hearts and minds towards better choices. After all, the outcomes will hurt everyone, not just the ones who voted for it.

Dems /literally laid all this out for them/. Explicitly. Repeatedly. Emphatically. Go tone police somewhere else I do not have time or patience for fully grown adults who can’t be bothered listening to the message.

No, this isn’t a strawman argument. ‘Status quo’ has an explicit meaning and anyone who claims the ‘status quo’ of ‘21 to ‘24 as their impetus to not vote or vote for Trump needs to actually address if the current situation is better than that. I’m not coddling grown ass adults over this.

Seems you missed what I was saying? It seems very likely that they were putting forth a rhetorical framing rather than stating their own voting choice. Low-information voters are who need to be moved here. Does it suck? Yes! But people advocate for coddling because the general public needs coddling.

I’m fully cognizant of what you’re saying and I reject it. I cannot be more clear about this. The fact you have more energy for whining that the Dem party didn’t hold their hands and force them to listen than you do for Republicans is the problem. End of discussion.

If the general public needs to be coddled? Fuck them. They’re adults. They can wipe their own ass or sit in the shit, and they’ve chosen the latter.
