Redistricting fights seem like the quintessential example of the phenomenon whereby Democrats are treated with contempt for having principles that they often fail to live up to, while Republicans get treated with respect for refusing to have any kind of principles at all.

I'm very much liking the unified & decisive Democratic response tho! The media haven't noticed that part yet, but every single Democrat who's asked on cable news about Texas mid-decade gerrymandering & if they support Democrats returning the favor, all to a person said, Yes they support it.

My sense is if Democrats don't rediscover the pursuit of power for its own sake and because fuck these assholes then we're doomed. It's already pretty apparent leadership has internalized what they believe is the decisive judgment of the American volk in favor of Trumpism.

This is not necessarily solvable because people don't want Democrats to be Republicans, they want them to be mommy.

I actually think it's highly solvable as soon as they admit to themselves and their voters that they're both in a fight for their lives and not just their principles.

Nobody wants to admit the Democrats are in a lose-lose position because well then how could I pressure them to do exactly what I want?

This is the completely valid inverse corollary of Murc's Law. Murc's Law is never wrong.
