Hey look, you're doing the alienating thing they described!
Hey look, you're doing the alienating thing they described!
If pointing out flawed logic is alienating here, so be it.
You didn't comprehend the thing you replied to, wearing a mask while sick is literally to avoid spreading the germs. But at least you were beligerent!
The logic I’m using is the logic of how masks work on viruses. They’re great preventing transmission as the virus and water particles are large enough to be caught in the mask. They’re not ideal for keeping one safe from a virus though. Like doctors wear them to keep the patient safe
I wear it to keep others safe, just like the doctor. Thank you for making that plain.
That is what THEY SAID, right before you said their logic was flawed.
"Transmission of communicable airborne infectious diseases by asymptomatic individuals is relatively common. Many airborne diseases can be spread by people who do not show symptoms, making it challenging to control outbreaks."
Ok, I misjudged you. I thought you didn't understand what they were saying, but in fact you just did a crappy job of communicating what _you_ wanted, which was all people to wear masks at all times when in public. Which I guess you can be a dick about, since you're not convincing anyone anyway.
Not trying to convince anyone. Sharing the facts as I know them.
I get it, you're just a smol bean not responsible for your actions.
Very funny to claim this when you were literally responding to a post advocating for not mask scolding because it causes alienation and worsens public health.
Which is (once again) ironically a great example of what the original comment was talking about. If your standard is that all humans should be masked in public at all times and anyone who falls below that has "flawed and inverted" logic is WILD, and needless to say, off-putting to most.
I tip my hat to you continuing to slog through this thread. I got a helpful correction about n-95s when properly fitted do help protect you and I was conflating them with surgical masks. I live in the hinterlands and really underestimated how touchy people are when it comes to masks in 2025
I'm in general a fan of masks, especially if you are sick or are traveling, etc. But there are some people who are really mad that everyone isn't wearing a mask at all times, even though that would be a massive societal upheaval.
ftr, not mad at all.
I’m in the same boat. Heck I live in the hinterlands working retail and got spat on by dumb fucks asking them to mask up when it was state mandated. I know firsthand how deranged people got about it, it sucked!
If you only have a surgical mask, and are sick, it is STILL better to wear the surgical mask than nothing at all.
Absolutely! Ideally you stay home when sick but in this economy that’s not very realistic unfortunately
For many, in any economy.
Sort of. It's not sensible to assume all people who are sick know that they are sick, and so people in general should wear masks, mainly to protect others, as that is the more significant and larger impact.
You're yelling at people to wear masks at all times while in public?
yeah the original poster was saying that people who are sick should wear masks to avoid infecting others. like what they’ve done in japan for a while.
People love to launder their opinions through hypothetical everymen. Oh, I don't have any strong opinions about masks, I'm just concerned about how others will react.
you have no idea what you're talking about and you're just repeating disinformation
Non-sequitorious reply. [Narrator voiceover]: The middling marksman, in fact, held no animus for those cans.
I was kindly informed by someone that I was conflating surgical masks with properly fitted n-95s when it comes direct protection. You’re feel to communicate however you want but I’ll be blunt and say this particular post wasn’t helpful.
i just did an event in vegas in a p100 again and dodged covid my entire household has never had it because we wear good masks in shared spaces no exceptions because me and my wife are already disabled (fortunately in ways we can breathe through cumbersome respirators because others don't mask)
I mean, I’m with you broadly on your overall point, but this factoid is just not accurate. A fit checked N95 or KN95 can 100% keep you safe from infection. That apocryphal study that feeds the “masks don’t keep you safe” conventional wisdom was on cloth and surgical masks only.
[nods quietly]
pretty much. anecdotal but before covid I used to get sick like a couple times a month easy, but after covid and masking it's like maybe once every few months if that, just from wearing KN95s to stores. it's night and day.
I fly around 100,000 miles a year. I have not gotten sick during or after air travel since 2019. It’s fucking amazing. N95, and eat or drink at cruising altitude when the air is changing every 90 seconds in the cabin.
Oh i would certainly wear a mask while on a plane. Air travel is insane when it comes to gnarly stuff floating around the air
The airplane, if I recall correctly, is actually somewhat safer, at least once it is cruising, because the surfaces are cleaned and the air is filtered. But airports are a cauldron of diseases.
not at all the case. it's a confined tube that recircs air in a pressurized cabin, filled with people who were just in said cauldron of diseases and also bring whatever they already had with them on the plane. we already know poorly filtered HVAC spreads viruses like COVID, so planes would be worse
It isn't just recirculated, they use a portion of outside air. And they use good filters! I don't know why you're dooming about this instead of just googling it. www.iata.org/en/youandiat...
Obviously you can wear a mask the whole time, and be marginally safer. But you're breathing better air on a plane while cruising than you are in a grocery store or whatever.
In flight, when bleed air is replacing cabin air every 90-120 seconds, airplanes are quite safe. During boarding, they’re one of the worst environments you could come up with for transmission. It’s tricky.
absolutely wear a mask as long as you can stand it on a flight or in an airport would be my recommendation as someone who just hates getting sick lol
That’s awesome. Getting sick sucks. I’m very for people finding what works for them and enacting on that.
Fair enough and I appreciate the correction.
What other issues should we publicly have the wrong opinion about in order not to alienate people? I hear Gavin Newsom has a list
Boom.
The person that they are yelling at was saying they want people to wear masks when sick, no one had the wrong opinion, the response was just dickish for no purpose.
Who is the we here? Not trying to be snarky but I am genuinely curious.
I believe it refers to the public, or bluesky.
