I'll say it again because why not, don't go into every game expecting amazing, OMG masterpiece. You're just setting yourself up for failure often. Go in with more tempered expectations and you might just find games that surprise you & thrill you in ways you didn't expect even if they aren't "GOAT".
I do that with a lot of games. You kinda have to, or like you said, you set yourself up for failure. I've done that a couple of times, games looking amazing in previews, and then playing it and literally not into it at all. Finding the unexpected masterpieces that blow you away are the best.
Yes, those games that just sort of make you stand back and go wow. That was awesome! Way better then anticipated
I've played plenty 6/10 games in my life that i ended up really enjoying. Like Drakengard has a 63 metacritic but man i loved that game, Armored core 4 answer has a 64 metacritic and it's my favorite Armored core game.
Hell yeah! Exactly. I just finished Echoes of the End last week and had an absolutely great time even with all it's isssues and loved the variety and scope.

That's my main reason for every new game that's coming out and lord there a TON coming out in the last four months and into the new year.
The tierlist mentality of everything being "goated" or "mid" or "trash" has done so much damage. Just play games for what they are. Even "trash" games can be fun.

Yeah and that every game needs OMG graphics, spit shinned and amazing gameplay the whole duration, etc. This expectation of perfection truly is baffling.

Exactly. Sometimes a game is just ok, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Not every game needs to be a masterpiece. If anything, the decent games help appreciate the greats even more.
Yeah, absolutely this. So when those ones that truly shine brighter and bigger then others, well you can see. While also for those that don't can see what they aimed for or their ambitions.
If a game makes you do something either very well, or different to what you’ve previously seen, it’s worth playing. Even a cool variant can be worth your time. Very few games are masterpieces.
