It’s worth listening to the interview but a caller starts making stuff up about Mandami targeting synagogues and Jewish charities and Gillibrand leads off with this

She did hedge it very slightly that she hasn't spoken to Mamdani yet, doesn't know him, and promises to get answers from him that could theoretically lead to a walk back if she gets enough backlash... but she came screaming out the gate with that shit.

Or a Democrat right after 9/11. Let's not pretend that kneejerk Islamophobia and the War on Terror weren't bipartisan issues as soon as the hijackers' identities and affiliation were public.

Why are you flattening bad behavior to be all the same? Also, why are you making me defend dems? Yes, politicians bipartisanly voted for bad policies. Yes, they may even have said stuff like this behind closed doors. Cite a national dem going on public racist hysterical screed, please.

When you are only tangentially on topic and your response to insulting a top national Democrat by saying they are acting like a unhinged post 9/11 republican is to knee jerk basically say dems are the same as Republicans. Why yes you are flattening behavior and basically embarrassing progressim/left

Ah, I get your problem. You lack reading compression. The implied insult here is national dem leadership rep. By Gillibrand are backsliding relative to 25 yrs ago and becoming more conservative. Thanks for muddling that with your non useful contribution.

Are you unaware that Democrats were also on average more conservative 25 years ago than they are now? I was alive then; I remember full well the bipartisan support for the Patriot Act, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, etc. Were you? Did you forget?

Al Franken is a predator and had no business being in the Senate, and he resigned of his own accord anyway. More women were going to come out against him. Get a grip and don't blame Gillibrand for one of the few good things she's ever done compared to the terrible things lately.

Hyde T. Voltyge @hydevoltyge.bsky.social

I don't care how good he was on policy. There is zero room for being a sexual predator. Either you support victims, or you don't. We can find enough good people to run for office without putting in creeps. Tina Smith has done a fine job in his place, and Minnesota women can breathe easier.

jun 27, 2025, 12:19 pm • 13 2 • view
avatar
woodydelano.bsky.social @woodydelano.bsky.social

Now he is a sexual predator? We have a problem when people are unwilling to be able to distinguish behavior that is predatory and unwanted. Both is wrong and should be called out but when we fail to recognize the degree of the offense, we are being unfair and that is what many voters recoil against

jun 27, 2025, 1:20 pm • 1 0 • view
avatar
Hyde T. Voltyge @hydevoltyge.bsky.social

A pattern of harassing women is predatory behavior. What exactly is confusing to you? You seem to be acting as though the guy you liked should get a pass because you liked him. We can't play that way with sexual harassment. It is okay to have liked someone and you didn't know, now we call it out.

jun 27, 2025, 1:22 pm • 4 0 • view
avatar
Hyde T. Voltyge @hydevoltyge.bsky.social

Any voter that is pro sexual harassment is perfectly free to go vote for the Republican Party, which is infested with pedophiles and garden-variety rapists. I think Minnesota Dems have been doing just fine since Franken resigned, and how about all the women voting who want leaders they can trust?

woodydelano.bsky.social @woodydelano.bsky.social

You just made my point by calling people who want fairness and not a purity litmus test “pro sexual predator “. This is exactly the cause for the backlash against “ me too”. It hurt the cause so much we are worse off than where we began. Now have actual sexual predator in the WH

I maintain that Trump's weird outdated racism being ignored, treated as peculiar or sometimes as "hilarious" and a "true poaster" is the main reason why we're seeing this return to vicious Reagan-era racism Reagan had massive 1930s-era bigotries and society decided to RETVRN to it for a while

I think why this has rattled so many establishment Democrats so badly is that Zohran isn’t simply running for office - he is running for an EXECUTIVE office. I think if a DSA (or otherwise progressive anti-machine) candidate was running a successful campaign for Senate rn they’d be less hysterical.

They are relatively content with progressives and socialists as minority coalition partners in a legislative setting - but the thought of somebody on the left actually *leading* at any level of government is truly horrific to them. Any real power concessions are beyond the pale.
