Just an IT support guy but I was sold on Mr Robot the like 3rd episode when he said "we need to go to microcenter" and then they proceeded to shoot in the NYC microcenter.

on initial release, the pilot has elliot running old GNOME, like, 90s GNOME, and the version i can stream now has him running KDE, but Tyrell still comments on him running GNOME. i have been forced to disown it

it also infuriated me that in later seasons he was no longer a psychopathic antique gnome purist, because it seemed like a really fundamental way to establish his character

S1 was the only worthy season, you can’t keep running after the reveal

in fairness keeping an antique GNOME alive for production and having it run plausible modern hacking tools was, almost certainly, a giant pain in the ass, but he is literally living in the past, you know? he has refused to change his desktop since he was a child, at great difficulty

Side note but I actually think this is potentially the biggest selling point of Linux to normies: you never *have* to accept the UI update, they’re just now deprecating X and it’s been around forty years

another category i love is racial/national caricatures which unexpectedly become beloved among the people they're making fun of, like Speedy Gonzales with Mexicans, Jose Carioca with Brazilians and Asterix and Obelix with Italians

I can see that with how the other mice were portrayed, but Speedy was always the hero of the short, like Bugs or the Roadrunner
