I yell this to the clouds every day and it doesn't appear to make a damn dent: The Democratic Party is loath to wage all-out WAR with the Republican Party... ... who declared war on THEM, ages ago. Dems attack (politely!) individual R's, only never as an ideology: "But we have to WORK WITH THEM!"

If we survive, we'll need to de-MAGAfy in the same way Germany de-Nazi-fied. You can't have government representatives and officials with loyalties to anything other than the U.S. Constitution. There should be a MAGA version of "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the MAGA GOP party?"

And for the record, for citizenship and government offices people are still asked, "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist party?" At 52 years of age with 12 years of government service, I've never met an actual communist. Met lots of crypto-Nazis in the military and government.

In the early 20th century, the Communist Party was one that one could belong to, as with any other party. This is why after the first Red Scare, when it was banished from polite society, that later gave the McCarthyites an opening to declare, "...or have you EVER been..." ruining careers and lives.

Absolutely. Eugene Debs was in jail for 3 years for an opinion on the war. You can draw a direct line from McCarthy/Cohn through Nixon, right into MAGA. It's just the newest, most potent, and virulent strain of the KKK, McCarthyism, John Bircherism, Reaganism, and Tea Partyism.
