And give us MORE FIGHTS IN THE SUITS.
And give us MORE FIGHTS IN THE SUITS.
And the Megazord combination, the money shot of every Super Sentai series, the moment that often makes up half the opening credits because it's *that* awesome, happened OFF SCREEN, I assume because they couldn't afford to render it. Yes, I am still bitter.
Fuck I forgot about that. That's easily the dumbest, most bafflingly irritating facet of that entire movie.
I can't decide if I think that betrays an entire lack of understanding on the makers part of the source material or a sense of embarrassment with it. Either of which seems to make them a poor fit for actually making it..
There were definitely people involved who love super sentai, and I really think they would have included the Megazord combination if they could, but I suspect the studio remembered Bay almost melting down his own render farm with Devastator for ROTF and just decided not to try.
Also Goldar being a very conspicuous reskin of the Megazord model, which does imply they didn't have much money at all for the climactic battle.
It's nuts that the most recognisable, and coolest, facet of Megazord is that you can see how each individual Zord makes up the whole...but they opted to go for...generic robot man.
To which I'll throw in: Billy managing to morph should not have been Zordon's cue to give up, it should have been the cue for everyone to figure out how to do it.
Probably shouldn't have had the revenge porn plot either
I had actually blocked that from my memory
I'm still adjusting to new glasses and at first I thought this was the Optimus Prime design from the fourth and fifth movies. That's how indistinguishable this is
I have 20/20 vision and I still thought that for a second.
It's a pretty good movie that is held down by having designs that are either incredibly generic or bafflingly terrible. Look at what they did to poor Goldar.
In my opinion that movie really highlights the problem with ensemble casts, there are to many characters to establish. This leads to...questionable plot points and an uninteresting 1st half. Coupled with an ending that is just a cgi mess, sad that the 90s version was better cgi.
The Zords and the suits were what killed it for me
Also if Goldar actually looked like Goldar and not a gold covered poo statue
Also, adding a few more bright colors. I get that it's supposed to be more realistic than the series, but come on, real life is normally not that drab and muted.
Yeah, every other facet of that movie was really well done, I really enjoyed the cast, and was really enjoying it, then Goldar showed up...then the Megazord showed up...
Movie makers need to stop trying to make everything "realistic" or "believable", look how much better the Sonic movies were after they abandoned trying to make him look "realistic".
Yeah, I really enjoyed it up until dogshit Megazord and goldshit Goldar
One of the appeals of having robotic designs is being able to use fun shapes and styles for the design But that got ditched in favor of looking like a guy wearing a tech print morph suit Which is ironic given how megazords in the shows are actually guys in suits but look more interesting
It's annoying because the more tech like detail could have worked, as well as the more organic zord designs, but all the shape language gets completely lost on the megazord itself with its fairly boring silhouette
It's like a worse version of the AOE / TLK mindset of design
