Some people describe Emerald Fennell as subversive but real subversion would be to adapt the second half of the damn novel which movies usually don't and show Heathcliff's insane 20-year multigenerational revenge plan to gain ownership over both estates

Apparently Andrea Arnold tried to get a Romani actor for her 2011 film, but the UK Romani community had doubts about it. She cast James Howson in the role, who was fantastic & conveyed some of the same racial tension. Probably gonna stay my go-to cinematic version of it.

In the book, he is described as a "dark-skinned [slur for roma]" but he is usually just a brunette white guy in movie adaptations except for maybe one movie in 2010 (Which unfortunately was not very good)
