A temporary spending bill is not “giving it all up to the fascists.” Shutting the government down would not save democracy in any way shape or form. I cannot emphasize this enough. This vote is meaningless compared to the legislation they will be proposing soon and every democratic vote is needed.

Temporary is funny. The cr replaced a budget that was never passed last year. We're operating at what was passed in 2023. They're about to gut Medicaid but I guess it's fine. The point would have been to lay this at the feet of reps. and remind voters that they shut the gov down.

Congress has not made any votes on Medicaid or Social Security or gay rights or any other important issues yet. Shutting the government down would not have done a fucking thing to change that.

No, not yet but provisions within the CR allow them to reduce spending. When they cut 880 billion out of Medicare you'll see what I mean. They can also reduce all federal funding to states that allow gay marriage or sanctuary status. I'm just not putting anything past them at this point.

Congress cannot do any of those things without a vote. No way in hell Democrats are going to support those things. If you’re talking about executive orders, shutting down, the government would have no impact, in fact, it would probably result in him accelerating the number of executive orders.

Good point but it's not something that has to be voted on apparently. It's baked into the CR that allows them to shuffle funds or reduce as needed from what I read. They were going to take billions from Medicare. We'll find out what happens for sure soon enough.

Don't forget that the only party that is damaged is the one in power. It's what happened each time McConnell shut it all down and no one seems to remember that. It's also just a larger issue with Schumer more so than anything. He's 100 and needs to go regardless.

The majority of voters are getting younger and younger. They don't know what happened back in the 90s or why we are where we are because of Regan in the 80s. I like arguing with you. 😁 You're not going to change my mind that it was a missed opportunity but I agree we will have more.
